We are three weeks into the Organics Program at SP&SA, and all participating programs are doing a beautiful job sorting out the organics waste so that DSNY can truck it off to be composted. After today’s beautiful service, the Green Team collected all the organic waste from coffee hour for the first time. This will be a weekly endeavor, and congregants are welcome to bring their own compost from home to drop off at coffee hour.
Along these same lines of food and waste awareness, our delicious coffee hour spread included fruits, vegetables and dishes salvaged from the pantry and previous services. With nearly 40% of food production in the United States going to waste before it is ever eaten, it is important to make use of the abundance with which we are blessed.
It is very moving to witness this swell in the spirit of stewardship in the community. We are so grateful to all who are contributing their efforts and good will!
