Making Our Garden Grow

Ever since the Green Team was established a little less than a year ago, we’ve had dreams of gardening in the Church. Now, we are making those dream come true! Our first gardening project is to transform our courtyard, which lies nestled between SP&SA, St. Ignatius and some residences to the north, into a vibrant herb, flower and vegetable garden.

Gardening is a wonderful activity that clarifies the spirit, strengthens the body and forges a deep connection to the earth. There are fewer opportunities to garden in the city, which is why we want to share the experience with our neighbors.

One section of the garden will be tended to by wee gardeners from HOLA, the language immersion day school that has taken up residence on the first floor of SP&SA. If you are interested in adopting a plot, please let the Green Team know!

The garden will also serve as a meeting place for the Green Team and other community stewards for the community who want to learn more about climate justice, food justice, and sustainability. It can be difficult to proceed from a place of love and optimism when the road ahead is so incredibly daunting, but that is exactly what we must do.

Onward!
