The United Methodist Judicial Council, the ‘Supreme Court’ of the United Methodist Church, is meeting April 25-28 to decide several LGBTQ-related cases, including whether the Western Jurisdiction acted within its rights when it elected Methodism’s first openly gay Bishop last July (Bishop Karen Oliveto) and whether our own New York Conference properly commissioned and ordained openly-gay clergy candidates, including our own Rev. Lea Matthews.
Our church will be taking part in a witness for inclusion on the first day, the only session that is open to the public, and possibly on other days as well. We also want to offer housing for people coming from other places.
