Am I Teachable
Sixth Sunday after Pentecost
Today’s Readings: Romans 7:15-25; Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23
The young woman narrator of Octavia Butler’s novel, Parable of the Sower, speaks to the importance of personal and collective learning, especially in times of crisis. She says, “I mean to learn everything I can while I can…none of us knows very much. But we can learn more. Then we can teach one another. We can stop denying reality or hoping it will go away by magic.”
This week in worship, we will reflect together about how teachable we are, how open we are to be changed, guided by the parable of the sower and Jesus’s hope that we become good, fertile soil. Let’s learn together, in community, how to receive the message of the kin-dom of God that is being revealed right now in front of us.
May God grow in us the ability to be transformed so that we might change the world.
