First Sunday of Advent

Sunday, December 3 at 11am | Bulletin

Friends, How do you get ready for Christmas? Some, like my family, decorate the day after Thanksgiving. The tree and the wreaths and the nativities all go up, even before the official start of Advent. Others play it cool and wait to trim their tree until the week before, or even Christmas Eve. For some, Christmas prep starts with gift purchasing, when the ribbons and bows and wrapping paper appear. Maybe Christmas begins when you start to don your “gay apparel,” those seasonal plaid shirts and sweaters. Or maybe you are someone whose Christmas cue is that you let yourself listen to Christmas carols out loud or start watching your favorite holiday movies. Whatever it is, many of us have our rituals and routines for how to prepare “the most wonderful time of the year.”

This Advent, we’ll explore the theme, Preparing Room. As we consider how God prepared the earth to receive Jesus all those years ago, place by place, we’ll also think about how God prepares us to be dwelling places for the Divine. We’ll join together in the spiritual task of preparing room within ourselves and our world to receive Jesus. And we’ll start this Sunday! Join us.

In expectant hope,

Pastor Lea
