A recording will be available on our YouTube channel after the service.
On Sunday, we’ll continue in our worship series “Finding Faith.” We’ll delve into the perceived antagonism between faith and works this week, drawing from the epistle of James. We’ll think about the trouble in separating, by concept or in practice, faith in God from the everyday doing of faith. As I prepare for this reflection, I find myself singing a familiar hymn in our tradition. It seems to set aside any argument and get to the crux of what I believe James is really writing about.
“We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord
We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord
And we pray that our unity will one day be restored
And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love
Yeah they’ll know we are Christians by our love
We will work with each other, we will work side by side
We will work with each other, we will work side by side
And we’ll guard each one’s dignity and save each one’s pride
And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love
Yeah, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.”
Let’s gather this Sunday, to sing, to pray, and to worship our God, who asks us to love, not in theory, but with heart, mind, and soul.
Can’t wait to see you!
