We are reflecting this Lent on how we can answer the call to be “repairers of the breach.” And this week, we’ll consider our relationships and how the ruptures that pull us apart from one another contribute to that great divide between God and our world. It seems fitting that we would look to Jesus and the relationship he has with the devil, his tempter, to wrestle out some good news and reparative instruction. Jesus does not shy away from necessary confrontation, but he also doesn’t get stuck in an ongoing conflict. There is much more to his ministry and mission than disproving the devil. Let there be more to our lives than the tempting conflicts we find ourselves in, too.
