Oh, To Be Young

Those worshipping in person should bring and wear a mask during the service. Masks will be available if you do not have one when you arrive. Windows and doors will also remain open during the services for additional air circulation, and ice water will be available.

My favorite thing about being a youth pastor is getting to witness and experience some of the ways in which young people experience the world.

Tik toks and funny memes.

Constant and immediate connection to the global world.

Snacks.

Freedom and curiosity. I think there’s something about being young that leaves the mind open to questioning that really quite beautiful.

In our reading from Paul’s letter to the Galatians, Paul reminds us that we are all children of God. No other labels matter, not gender, not nationality, not ethnicity or even social status, simply just children of God. Living into THAT label is hard, we forget, we mess up, but it doesn’t change the nature of our relationship to God. I think that what Paul is asking us to do, to remember who we are, and how special our relationship with our parent God is, and the freedom that comes with this relationship.

Our youth will be leading us in worship, it’s Father’s Day, our nation will be celebrating the Juneteenth holiday for the first time, and we will be baptizing one of God’s children, Abe, into the family of God!

Join us this Sunday, we’ve got a lot going on and we can’t wait!
