Slow Leak

Those worshipping in person should bring and wear a mask during the service. Masks will be available if you do not have one when you arrive. Windows and doors will also remain open during the services for additional air circulation, so please dress warmly if it’s chilly!

“Then Jesus breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.'”  John 20:22

By the evening of that first Easter, the disciples are weary, frightened, confused, dispirited, and out of breath.  Then Jesus shows up.
The past few years have been challenging for us. There are days I feel like I don’t have very much left to give. Like a tire with a slow leak, gradually going flat.
I think that’s the situation those disciples faced. And then, strangely, Jesus breathes on them. Fills them with spirit and hope.
It’s a scene that evokes the creation of the first people in Genesis 2. when the breath of God blows through their nostrils and gives them life.  Like those first humans, the disciples also come to life. And are able to carry out God’s mission of love and justice.
As we worship together, let’s pray that the breath of God fills us and gives us each new life!
