“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?'” Matthew 25:37
What always strikes me about the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats is how mystified the righteous ‘sheep’ are at the praise from Jesus? ‘When did we do all the things?’ Because to them they were just doing what they do.
John Wesley, like Jesus himself, felt that Jesus-following was primarily a practice, rather than a belief system. ‘What does your faith lead you to do?’ or ‘How does your faith make you act?’ Wesley might have asked. Otherwise, as it says in the Epistle of James, ‘Faith with nothing to show for it is dead faith’. A faith like that is really of no use to God, to you, or to anyone else.
This week we’ll take a look at our commitments. And see how a commitment to the way of Jesus might lead us to live our faith.
See you Sunday,
