In It For the Long Haul

Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost
Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 34:1-12

“God said to Moses, ‘This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants’; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.’ Then Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab, at the Lord’s command.” Deuteronomy 34:4-5.

This week, we finally reach the end of Moses’ story. After 40 years of wandering in the desert, he dies just as the Promised Land is within reach. Were the blisters worth it? What keeps us going, when we know we won’t see the fruits of our labor? When it feels like God takes forever to answer our prayers, what can we do in the meantime?
