This December, St. Paul & St. Andrew ushers in the holiday season with The Passion of Scrooge, a captivating 60-minute opera praised as “first-rate” by Opera News and “a worthwhile and timely addition to the joys of the season” by Whole Note.
New York composer Jon Deak faithfully reimagines Charles Dickens’ beloved tale in an innovative concert drama that balances humor and heartfelt emotion alongside the darker aspects of Scrooge’s character, resonating with a timeless yet timely urgency regarding the issues we face today.
Foregoing period costumes and set pieces, dazzling virtuoso singer Aaron Engebreth embodies all the roles battling inside Scrooge’s head. This one-night-only event on December 7, in the beautiful and historic sanctuary at 263 W 86th Street, invites audiences to experience this ageless redemption story with new ears.
Mr. Engebreth and the renowned Talea Ensemble, under the direction of James Baker, will present the New York premiere of Scrooge.
