WATCH THE SERVICE IN ITS ENTIRETY
“So David strapped Saul’s sword over the armor Saul had clothed him with, and David tried in vain to walk, for he was not used to them. Then David said to Saul, ‘I cannot walk with these, for I am not used to them.’” – 1 Samuel 17:39
The best part of the whole David vs. Goliath story is this scene where the young shepherd boy David tries to fit into Saul’s armor and carry Saul’s equipment, and then tries to go off to meet Goliath – and finds he can barely move.
How often do we get placed into situations and expectations that are just not us? And how hard it is, then, to know and claim who we really are!
David is not some great warrior. He’s a scrappy kid with attitude. And, luckily, enough confidence to be able to say to the King of Israel, ‘Yo, that’s just not me. I’ll tackle this situation and deal with this bully in my own way.’
Let’s hope we can continue, as a church and as individual Jesus-followers, to have the courage to do things in the quirky way that works best for us!
See you Sunday,
K
