That Sinking Feeling

Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost
Today’s Reading: Matthew 14:22-33

So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Matt 14

Peter got out of the boat! When I read the story of Jesus walking across the water to get to the disciples, that’s the part that gets to me. Jesus walking on the water, well, that’s just what Jesus does. Peter thinking he can jump out of the boat and do the same? Wow. That’s a miracle.

We love to put limits on ourselves. I love to put limits on myself. And while I’m pretty sure I’ll never have the kind of faith that lets me walk on water, I’d love to think I might someday get out of the boat and try…. Wishing you and yours a week filled with miracles, large and small. -K
